A Week in Iceland Part 2 // Southern Iceland

Southern Iceland....wow wow wow. So much to see, and SO secluded. Apart from seeing lots of people at tourists attractions, we felt so alone, and rarely saw other people. It was very weird for us, especially since the last time we did a trip to Europe we were socializing and in public settings 99% of the time. There is no night life whatsoever in Iceland, and finding places to eat was HARD. So if you are a social creature, Iceland may not be for you. It was definitely an adjustment, but the amazing views made it a bit easier! ;)

Seljalandsfoss -- We saw this waterfall on our drive south. It was huge and we got absolutely soaked due to all the mist in the air. You can tell from the pictures that my camera lens was all wet and cloudy. This waterfall was one of my favorite things that we saw!

Krysavik Seltun Natural Hot Springs -- This was cool! We had this grand plan to go swimming in all these natural hot springs, little did we know that every single one that we found would be way too hot to even touch. Due to all of the boiling hot springs, Iceland is able to rely solely on geothermic energy.

Laugarvatn Fontana -- On this lake, there is a spa that sits right on top of a hot spring. There are pools at all different temperatures and a natural sauna. It was a much cheaper alternative to the crowded Blue Lagoon! We spent the afternoon here relaxing, and then we walked over to a cute restaurant called Lindin.

For the last three days of our trip, we stayed in Hella. We rented this cute little cabin from Airbnb. It was the perfect location to all of the things we were planning to see.

Wild horses everywhere!!! They were beautiful, and we frequently would pull over on the side of the road to pet them. Everyone in Iceland has horses. Icelandic horses have no diseases, so they seek pride in owning them. Most people let their horses roam free around their property, and expect them to return for feeding time.

This beautiful church is located in Vík. It was one of the prettiest things I saw the whole trip. This church set up on a hill, surrounded by a small town, wildflowers, horses, with the Black Sand Beach in the background. Gorgeous.

Books of the bible written in Icelandic!

I looked forward to seeing the Black Sand Beach the entire trip. It lived up to the hype. I have always wanted to do a photoshoot at this location, and our tripod did a pretty great job at capturing some special memories!

Happy Travels,
Lauran
