A Week in Iceland Part 1 // Reykjavik

We just got back from a 5 day trip on the island of Iceland, so fun! We flew into Keflavik airport, rented a car, and spent the first two days of the trip exploring Reykjavik.

This church was right down the street from the Airbnb where we were staying. Being in the town center was the perfect location. We were able to walk pretty much everywhere.

The Viking Museum is a must if you are going to Reykjavik. We learned so much, and if we had not gone, we would have missed out on so much information and history. After the tour, we got to dress up like vikings and get our picture taken, haha.

We adored our rental car! Most cars in Europe are very small and are stick shift. They are so fun to drive, and make street parking a breeze. Duke and I kept saying the whole trip that Euro cars need to come to America.

At Reykjavik Fish, we ate the BEST fish and chips. Highly recommend. It was our favorite meal of the whole trip.

Another favorite Icelandic dish that we had was Plokkfiskur, or "mashed fish". It sounds gross, but it was delicious. It was a combo of fish, potatoes, herbs, and cheese. We plan to try to make it ourselves!

We visited the cutest 'Anthropologie like' store called Geysir. Absolutely amazing. We ended up buying an Icelandic wool blanket that we can use for years to come.

Although flights to Iceland are cheap, prices on the island are extremely high. However, when buying items $60 or over, you can fill out info for a 20% tax return. Almost all stores have the forms available, and when checking out, you simply ask them to fill it out. At the airport on the way home, you turn in the form, show your items, and the money will later be returned to the credit card that you purchased with.

Second blogpost on Southern Iceland to come!!

Happy Travels,
Lauran
