UTAH Roadtrip // Provo, Salt Lake, and Moab // Camping + Offroading

UTAH!!!!! One of the coolest states we have visited!

-----

Moab:

Moab is pure magic, and I am not exaggerating when I say that. I have never seen anything so beautiful, and vast. For those of you who do not know what Moab is, it is a small city in Utah known for Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. Red landscapes and rock formations go as far as the eye can see. Moab is the ultimate bucket list visit for overlanders worldwide, so of course we had to go. This was Duke's second time in Moab, lets call it a redemption visit. The last time he was here, he flipped his car on a trail. This time he was determined to regain his confidence and conquer the trails, which we did with no issues! We met up with some friends who also overland, and spent two days camping and climbing rocks!

What is overlanding? Overlanding is adventure travel, where you are self reliant, and normally in a secluded area. All of your necessities to live are in your vehicle. These vehicles are capable of off roading, and are typically loaded up with all kinds of gear.

Provo:

Provo....home of In&Out, easily our favorite part of Utah. Everyone has heard of the famous In&Out Burger, and how amazing it is. Lemme tell you, it lives up to the hype. We ate here two times over a four day trip (yikes!). It is so yummy, and so cheap! They have a secret menu too, all you have to do is google it...not really that secret.

A highlight in Provo for me was Soel Boutique; a small clothing store tucked into the mountains. After following them on Instagram for a few years, I was finally able to go in and shop. I was so excited! I left with some new finds, and I am determined to go back one day!

You can follow them on Instagram @soelboutique :)

Salt Lake City:

SLC was beautiful & not a far drive from Provo. The whole point of going to SLC was to visit Snowbird Resort for an archery competition that Duke was competing in. It lasted for a day, and the resort is beautiful. We want to go back when there is snow for skiing.

We visited Antelope Island to see the Great Salt Lake. This was really cool, but also really gross. The lake is more like a marsh. It does not get deep at all. There are teeny tiny orange brine shrimp that live in the salty waters. Brine flies cover the ground, so much so that the ground actually appears to move. It is extremely freaky, and when you aren't in the water, they are in full on attack mode and SWARM you. Birds travel from all over to eat the shrimp and the flies -- bird heaven. Over 250 birds feed and nest on Antelope Island! We spotted a wild Bison on our drive off of the Island, and we got to stop to take pictures -- super cool experience.

We are not Mormon, but it was so fun to learn about the Mormon beliefs and walk around Temple Square. Temple Square is BEAUTIFUL, and is a must see when in SLC.

We saved money on this trip by packing a cooler full of food and drinks, and eating that for most of our meals. We invested in a Pelican cooler, and it keeps our food cold for days. We only had to buy a bag of ice once. We camped in the back of our Xterra at night. In Moab we stayed in the wilderness, but in Provo and SLC we paid for a spot at a Campground of America. They are reasonably priced, and have nice bathrooms and showers. It was much cheaper than staying in a hotel.

This is our favorite picture from the whole trip, despite how unflattering it is. It's real life. Nothing beat the beauty of waking up in the middle of the desert, with nothing else around.

As far as car camping goes, we have made many investments to make it nice and comfy. We will do a blogpost later on about everything we have done to the Xterra to make it livable and travel friendly!
