Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve -- Day Trip

This was one of the day trips we did while living in CO over the summer. The drive to get here was so long, but we had lots of fun & quality convo time. Plus we saw lots of wildlife on the way! As far as the sand dunes go...absolutely incredible. If you are an east coaster and have ever been to the Jockey Ridge sand dunes on the Outer Banks, these are triple the size. So big. We could not walk too far without getting out of breath. Chacos were also a very bad idea. The day we went, the sand was so hot. We had raw, burnt feet from the sand getting in our chacos and rubbing...not fun.

Does this not look like a watercolor painting?! This was taken with our canon!

Chacos in the da air!!! At the base of the sand dunes, there is a natural river that flows through, and is a major attraction for Colorado dwellers. Being landlocked, many are not regulars at the beach. People had their towels, chairs, sand toys, etc, all spread out like it was a day at the beach. It was comical, but it was fun! The water felt so good after burning our feet on the sand dunes. It would be a great hangout if you have younger kids. The water is not deep, so it is perfect for them to splash around and cool off. Lots of people even had their dogs there!

The temperature was in the high 80s, and you can see the beautiful snow covered mountains in the distance. Those mountain peaks pretty much have snow on them year round. Colorado weather. So friggin cool.

Getting all the good instagram shots. We take our camera pretty much everywhere that we go. Not only do we like to get good content shots, but we actually enjoy taking pictures. We are both artsy, and it makes every adventure more fun. We love looking back at the pictures when we get home, and talking all about the trip. Memories are a big deal to us, and pictures allow us to relive those memories. Photography is something that we will never feel bad about investing in, whether our own gear, or getting a professional photographer to shoot us. We never regret taking pictures, or having "too many" pictures. We love to document each moment and stage of our life together. Candid adventure shots just so happen to be our favorite!
